Family Background [at least brief]: She never met her father nor any other family aside from her mom. Her mother took her away when she was one years old to a cult. The cult acted as a family to her for a number of years.

History [how they got to where/who they are]: Born as Maria Avery, her mother joined a cult that worshiped and lived the old Aztec ways of life while she was very young, bringing young Maria with her. It was there her name was changed to Maritza. Mari grew up very happily with this cult as it was the only way of life she knew. She thought her life was very calm and uneventful, aside from a few things here or there, such as when she was married at the age of 14 to a 29 year old man named Tezka. She didn't have a choice nor did she love him, but it was her duty so she didn't try to rebel against it. However another of her duties was to become a sacrifice when she came of age. Every 5 years, there was a sacrifice to Aztec gods and on Mari's 16th birthday, she was informed of her duty. Fearing her own death, she ran away and passed out in the Great Basin Desert in Nevada. She was found near death and dehydrated by an elderly old lady and her grandson and was taken in. After a few weeks of them helping her, she returned to health and stayed with them for a bit longer and learned many new things about life outside of the cult. One of the things she found out about was video games. Her first attempt at one landed her in the forbidden game.
